VS Angel Sara Sampaio on Why Nudity Is Empowering

For some, stripping down can be a source of contention—one that provokes anxiety and fear. (Tobias, the “never nude” in Arrested Development, comes to mind.) For others, the naked body is a sexualized entity that should be shrouded in plastic and hidden from view on the newsstand.

For newly minted Victoria’s Secret Angel Sara Sampaio, posing nude is a source of empowerment that should be celebrated—no matter your size or shape. It’s about baring not just the physical self, but tapping into raw confidence that doesn’t require adornment. “At the end of the day, we came into the world naked, and that’s the way we’re going to go,” she said. In other words, you might as well get comfortable with yourself. Sampaio also credits modeling for her high level of self-esteem: “I used to not have any confidence when it came to my body—I developed very late in terms of being a girl!” Slow and steady, as they say, wins the race.
