BT Tower Revolving Restaurant to Re-open For 50th Anniversary

The long-closed revolving restaurant at the top of the BT Tower is to reopen for a limited time as part of the iconic London landmark’s 50th birthday celebrations.

The restaurant will re-open for just two weeks in July to mark ’50 ingenious years’.

The Grade II listed building was originally opened in 1966 complete with a revolving restaurant on the 34th floor, which made one rotation every 22 minutes.

The restaurant was closed several years after an IRA bombing in 1971 caused security concerns and the building was eventually closed to the public in 1981.

The famous communications tower was completed in 1964 and stands at a height of 191m. For many years it was the tallest building in both the UK and London but lost titles to the NatWest Tower (now Tower 42) when it was completed in 1980.

As the restaurant is re-opening for a limited time only, the lucky diners will be selected by ballot, the first of which will run from 22 until 29 June. The second ballot will be open from 30 June to 7 July.

BT will also be holding a ballot in September offering 30 trips to the 34th floor for a view of the London skyline.
