Steven Gerrard scores on his last Liverpool appearance

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard endured a nightmare send-off in his final game for the club as Stoke embarrassed the Reds with five first-half goals at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke scored three times in the space of eight minutes, Mame Biram Diouf and Jonathan Walters netting.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam made it 4-0 from 20 yards before Steven Nzonzi added the fifth from distance.

Gerrard got one back before substitute Peter Crouch headed Stoke's sixth.
