Michael King, the brains behind the iconic media force that was the Oprah Winfrey Show has died a few days ago.
TMZ reports that Michael King, who, along with his brother, Roger, created and syndicated the talk show staple, suffered from a fatal infection after returning from a trip overseas.
King and his wife reportedly traveled to France weeks ago to visit their son. After returning to the States, he apparently contracted a serious infection and was admitted to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood. He was said to be treated in the ICU for pneumonia.
Though he was placed on a ventilator, his health state just worsened. At around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (May 27), doctors reportedly removed him from life support. He passed away several hours later at 66.
King, who also played a key role in spearheading the successes of other hit shows like Dr. Phil, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, was considered one of the most accomplished television producers of all time.
The famed producer helped propel Oprah Winfrey to the iconic status that she currently holds. Due to this push, she has been able to branch out to become one of the most successful figures in entertainment, having recently starred in the blockbuster film Selma.
* My thoughts and prayers go out to King's family and friends. RIP
